On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of his birth, Molière comes back to Vaux-le-Vicomte.

From 19th November, the playwright will be at the heart of the 17th edition of Vaux-le-Vicomte in celebration. Vaux-le-Vicomte will be transformed into a Palace of Art. The courtyards, the outbuildings, the château and the French garden will take you on a magical day, punctuated with activities for adults and children.

Rehearsal in the carriage museum

The visit will begin with the carriage museum, named for the occasion “The artists’ entrance“. In a subdued atmosphere, to the sound of Lully’s music, you will pass through different areas which will transport you into Molière’s world from the start of the visit.

Thanks to the staging of costumes, sets and automatons, you will witness the creation of a play, up to living paintings animated by two actors, rehearsing the famous play “Les Facheux”.

Singular encounters in the château

A path of Christmas tree will then lead you to the château, where you will plunge into the famous Molière’s inspirations, honoured in the State Rooms.

In the Antechamber, you will first be greeted by Molière and Nicolas Fouquet, thanks to animated automatons.  Once in the Muses’ Room, you will have the chance to attend the famous play “l’École des Maris”, with huge characters in fir trees dresses…

In the Hercules Antechamber, discover an automaton of Mr Jourdain with a master of arms the middle of fir trees in which sugar masks will be hung. In the King’s Antechamber, the play “l’Ecole des femmes” is in full performance…Décors Noël
The visit will continue in the King’s bedchamber with a tribute to Lully, Molière’s faithful friend and partner, while the King’s Cabinet will display the crèche filled with little squirrels!
In the Dining Room, you will be invited to “At Molière’s table”, where you can discover the art of entertaining around a huge 5m long table.

Finally, the visit will end in the basement with the presentation of the “Ambigu”, a dinner-collation served during the famous soirée of 17th August, 1661. In the kitchen, you can admire a giant tree in a Christmas setting…

Never seen before! An immersive mapping about the “Bourgeois Gentilhomme” in the Salon

You will be plunged into the 17th century festivities during a 360° mapping, projected onto the dome and the 1000 m² of the Salon’s walls. You will witness a spectacular reinterpretation of the Ceremony of the Turks from the “Bourgeois Gentilhomme”, to the music of Lully.
